Ok, so what's been going on with me...Welll, The more research I do on this whole process and the journey into becoming an MBA....I find that my experience in, get this, "Pageantry" is becoming more useful now than ever. I often here of the common stereotype that BQ's are Beautiful "Dumb" Women. But, as I journeyed down that road, I have met nothing but Beautiful, Educated, Driven, Competitive Women who all look good in 3.5" Heels & a Bathing Suit (HA!)! Now, don’t get me wrong, I have met some dumb ones on the way, lmbo! But, they are a very small percentage of the Alum. Back to the subject, The main thing I took away from my BQ Journey was that of being true to one's self, being confident in the experiences one has, and truly having a deep sense of who you are and how that lends itself to being able to compile all these things into the final package and present yourself in the best possible manner.
My Miss TN USA '07 Application was very similar to this MBA Application process. I filled out the application, submitted copies of my transcripts, essays, a put a couple a recommenders down to contact for character reference. Um, thank God there were no standardized tests given to complete the application process, Lmbo!!! Then, I paid my $900 (YES, $900.00) entry fee to interview, to compete amongst the Best, Brightest, and Most Beautiful women in my state at a shot for being hopefully being Miss TN USA, then Miss USA with the opportunity to advance my professional & personal goals, all while promoting my platform against DV (of course I raised the capital to fund that entry fee:). FYI: The girl I competed against that year went on to become Miss USA....that was some stiff comp' that yr, lol!
At the end of the day, it took a huge commitment for me to prepare for the journey of being a BQ. I have won some big titles and lost some. I believe I have a well balanced view of both spectrums. The main business lesson learned from competing is that in reality some deals are Big Wins! In other cases, there are losses, even when we play by all the rules. The goal is being able to take those lessons from the wins and losses to apply them elsewhere somewhere in life. And, if you can do that, then the journey of being a BQ has been a successful one. And, the winning attitude is within. As I have been on this MBA Application Journey, I have realized now more than ever that those valuable lessons I learned: 1) being true to yourself 2) honest about who you are in order to present a solid and unique candidate are now considered PRICELESS GEMS OF WISDOM for this MBA Journey!
