Okay, so I just signed up to receive emails & information from Tuck. I must admit, at first, I was real hesitant about Tuck b/c of its location. I mean honestly, Northeast with No Metropolitan life for me with 3-6 Inches of snow as a norm for two years straight is not attractive at all. But, while I was on my way to visit HBS in April; I meet a guy who was from Memphis, TN (close to Somerville, TN where I am from)! He worked for Birddog Solutions and was on his way back home from a business meeting in Charlotte. He sat down next to me and I said, “Now, how is it you made it through checkpoint without your shades being broken? My Armani Shades did not survive & my heart is broken…I heard them crack going through the machine” He said he was sorry & started laughing at my silliness. Then he broke out the Wall Street journal, then his Kimble. And, I read a magazine from the plane. My goal for this trip was to do no work…and then of course he offered me his wall street journal. And, I crumbled under the pressure…ha ha ha!
We got to talking about what we did. And, I told him I was going to visit HBS. He told me some of his colleagues went there. He went on to say that he lived in New Hampshire with his wife & two kids. I said, “Woow….It’s cold up there, lol.” Then, he asked me if I had thought about Tuck? And, I told him, “not really, I think the bitter cold winters turns me off. I’m kind of Summer/Beach Girl, lol.” I told him that I would consider it a little bit more since I had met him. He was a good dude. Then, once we made it to Boston. He told me to look him up if I ended up in New Hampshire. I said, “4 Sho!”
After, I got back to Charlotte…..completely High off the Exhilarating Energy I had just experienced at HBS. I started doing research on the school, listening to podcast, & watching admissions videos, I felt a Sense of connectedness to the institution. And, that is a great thing. Their environment is much smaller, around 300 people. And, they have just built bran new housing to take the place of the older family housing, called Sachem Village! That gets me excited. As a Single Mother, I think I have mentioned time and time again, my biggest concern about this journey has been being able to balance motherhood and my school environment. Tuck makes it clear that families are a big art of their community. And, this gives me peace. I think a visit is in order. However, I have to figure out how I could coordinate it b/c I would want to bring my son. I know it will be hard for a country turned metro city chic to be out in the middle of nowhere away from civilization. But, I am starting to think that being at Tuck would more than make up for some missing aspects of that life. So, I believe it is at least doable. Plus, it’s been over 10yrs since I have lived in a country setting. I kind of miss it occasionally, when people are strolling down the street at 1am in the morning….or my neighbor next door decides to bring out the urban band at 11pm during the middle of the week. I would definitely be something new for both me & my son. Well, let me get back to work, studying, & writing. Multitasking is one of my strongest skills, lol!
