Okay...totally frustrated now. I was trying to be optimistic about my son's Other parent actually helping me with keeping him this weekend, so I could attend a GRE Course. As usual, He left me high and dry and encouraged me to finalize my registration before he would commit to actually keeping my son. Um...Parenting 101, don't make plans unless you have adequate child care , duuhhh. Anyway, long story short, I missed the opportunity and now the course is no longer available. So, I now have to strategize on how I can do this effectively without paying $200-400 of additional child care expenses. This is another concern I have going to Bschool as a Single Parent, how am I going to manage this by myself when I have a Learning Team Meetings at 7:30am in the morning? The day cares on campus don't open til 8am. Or, what about a social in my section at night? I was doing the calculations for being in certain cities. And, I am going to be honest, the reality the child care on the campus is $1600 a mth. Housing...decent housing close to campus $2650 a mth=$51,000 a yr....and I havent even thought abt food, clothing, dr visits, books, tuition.........this is a moment on the journey that I question giving up my income...to go back to school. I am very frustrated...........as always, Be Luv, Rashida
Wow! Sounds like a lot. I cant really say anything because I'm not a mother yet alone a single mom, but I can say this...TRUST GOD. Things will work itself out.
ReplyDeleteEverything Happens for a reason and will work out for the best. Reading this post made me thing of things I never even considered before.
ReplyDelete@ Candace You are right trusting god is paramount at this point. I do. And, I will. The reality that it will work out is favorable. It's just going through the process of managing the challenges that come along my way can get overwhelming. And, I have to make sure I am considering all aspects of this journey and not just looking at the ideal side of it. These thoughts have just encouraged me to do more research to see how many single mothers have actually gone to top bschools and completed the programs. For, I beleive this goal is achievable. It just always helps to have a role model of inspiration to reassure that this is possible. Thanks so much for your advice & post.

ReplyDelete@ Ellipsing, Where have you Been!? I tried to access your blog the other day and couldn't get to it. How's everything? Is Tuck your first choice? I agree everything will work out! I like reading your blogs...enjoyed the one abt not underestimating your & the bschool network. But, yeah, I have to consider all aspects of the Bschool transition so that by the time I get there, I know what it is I have to handle. I mean there is no way to totally anticipate every possible situation. But, for the info I can access & internalize it to my life I do so. For ex., when I first started looking at HBS's website I really took their advice on making sure to use the website as a resource. It has a wealth of information there. So, no matter where I end up at BSchool, I am able to plan accordingly. I even spoke with an HBS Childcare Assoc. last wednesday, who was very helpful in getting information about their program & timelines. I am very grateful for this. And, I will follow the same process for all the other schools i'm applying to as well.
