1.22.11, Saturday Quant Part II

Okay, so we finished our class about an hour ago.  I came home to let my babysitter go, and got my son feed.  The overall day went pretty well.  This is a str8 old school format to learning the test.  I signed up for the course at Queens University, the Quant Instructor is Steve Smith.  He is str8 ol' school! Lol, which is great for me.  We really didn't focus too much on Quant Strategy.  We basically spent the whole day relearning basics in arithmetic, prealgebra, algebra, & geometry.  Its funny....b/c like I said the hardest part for me to understand is the language.  Interpreteing the language, then figuring out what it is they are asking.  We did 1 set of 15 PP's.  And, I was straight up looking at the problems like what is it you want me to do?  I solved maybe 1/2 of them.  And, got 1/2 of the 1/2 I solved right.  So, I am pretty pleased that I at least m on the right track.

Its funny, while we were going through this stuff, I started having flashbacks from grammar school & high school from when I first learned this stuff, which is GREAT!!!  That means, I know its in there.  And, I am again refreshing.  So, tonight, the plan is to take a break until about 9pm & let my mind rest, put my kid to bed.  Once I feel recharged, I am going to go at it again.  I am picking up where I left off Monday.

1.  I have to finish copying to notebook paper my Grockit Lessons 3 & 4.
2. I am going to finish watching Mathtutor DVD Disc 1.
3. Supplement that with at least 25-50 Practice Problems from the Math Tutor DVD (25) & Grockit (25).

The good news is I got 13 Hrs of Study Time in this week.  My Goal is: 1) Learn the Rules 2) Lern how to apply the rules 3) Apply the rules to GRE Quant 4) Accurately work the problems until I am getting them all right 5) Put 1-4 into the timeformat and work each prob in 2mins, then 1.5 mins.

Ian, from Manhattan Gre said you need at least 10-15hrs a week, for a total of 100-150 Hrs to get a decent score.  With that being said, I will probably round out at about 16 hrs once I am done tonight, for my quant, which is the min focus.  As far as verbl is concerned, I am going to just study the Hit List in my Barrons Book.  But, right now, I care more about Quant.  Ok, I gotta Bounce!
