Happy MLK Day!! Its always a great day for reflection to see how far we have come & how much more we have to go. Charlotte had protesters today b/c the schools made the kids go to school today to make up for the snow last week. I have one very clear statement on that decision, “How Rude & Disrespectful Can One Be?” #Thatisall. Other than that, the day went well. I refrained from going to the city “celebration” that was planned. It had nothing to do with MLK and seemed to have been more organized like an awards show. So, I figured my time would be better spent in reflection of the journey and how I can continue to contribute to the progression of an inclusive society.
So, that’s where my mind was and is philosophically on race in America....fwd movement and progress. I can not help but to think about how my son will view the world as he gets older. He will inherit a totally different life, perspective, & personhood as an African American Male b/c of so many sacrifices made for him by the people who went before him. I lookf fwd to teaching him out heritage just as my parents did as soon as I showed an inkling of understanding. Yes...the dream lives on & the reality of it lives daily.
