Ok, so I am back very quickly. Lol, while my son is downstairs munchin his on his lunch & possibly flinging Applesauce on my living room walls (Ha ha ha). I decided to run upstairs start the washer & dryer & finish reading some info on Adam Markus' Blog about the HBS Class of 2013 Essay. I have read some good pointers....most of which I had already considered. I did save the Swot & Accomplishpment Grid though. It seems like it may be useful. I also purchased "How to Get Into HBS Tool Kit" back in Feb., which offers very similar advice. I wish I had known about this guys website. I could saved my self $100 Bucks, Lol!
Nevertheless, I found a really good article on his blog about an HBS Rejection. Here is the blog address: http://adam-markus.blogspot.com/2009/10/happy-story-of-hbs-rejection.html. At first, when I started this journey, I had my sights strictly set on HBS. Now, I have opened myself up to other schools that may be a fit for me as well. Considering, the fact that Columbia has both a huge focus in RE & PE. It's worth the look. I am again starting to see the program that is the best fit will be the program that is going to help me develop in those areas. It's ironic that I came across this article today...Wednesday, I was listening to The HBS Centennial Global Business Summit a keynote address that interviewed Bill Gates on his new role in reference to his foundation & eradicating new areas of poverty in the health sector (i.e. HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Pneumonia, & Tuberculosis). And, Professor James Cash asked him if he was willing to take on a public position if asked to do so? And, Bill Gates mentions a conversation he had just had with Warren Buffet, who had just been asked to do something similar. Bill goes on to mention that he was getting ready to do the business summit at HBS on this matter. And, he said Warren Buffet mentioned briefly that HBS rejected him, but he was over it now......and then Bill Gates keep saying Warren Buffet kept mentioning it 1/2 way through the conversation every time he got a chance (lol). Bill said but he is clearly over it right (laughing).
I thought that was hilarious. And, I had no idea, up until that point, that HBS rejected WARREN BUFFET!! Lol, the irony in that is amazing! But, it speaks volumes about finding the school that's right for you....."a good fit" as I keep hearing admissions directors mention. I suddenly feel the need to check out Warren Buffet's Biography from the Library:). Anyway, the link is: http://hbs.edu/centennial/businesssummit/business-society/a-conversation-with-bill-gtes.html, if you want to see the interview. It is from October 2008. So, it is about two years old. But, it is good info.
So, I have to get back to my son. He's screaming upstairs asking me, "Wha u doin Mami?" Lol, I am amazed at his brilliance:). We have conversations like he's 5 Yrs Old & he is only 2! Do you know why? I made it a point to always speak to him like he was a small human being who just could not speak at the moment. Now, I see the fruits of my labor. It's a catch 22 though. He uses that same intelligence to try to outsmart me, lol......He is definitely my kid. I am Sooo fortunate that I got to stay at home with him his first year of life:).
As always, Be Luv! Rashida
